14 +1, this exhibition is our reaction to the present political situation in Austria. We, including jointly responsible colleagues, respectively artists, stand for a clear YES to the European Union and against a boycott of the art- and culture-scene, respectively the population of Austria.
Artists from the EU-countries make a sign and send - more than ever - their works of art for a joint campaign to Austria. These works and statements of the respective artists are shown in the exhibition.
The shortly convoked project demonstrates the artists' will to find, in those times, the mutual dialogue and to improve the present situation.

A letter from Dr. Thomas Klestil, Federal President of the Republic of Austria:
Der Bundespräsident
Die Interessen der EU liegen nicht nur im Bereich des gemeinsamen Marktes, sondern die fünfzehn Partnerstaaten verstehen sich auch und sogar vorrangig als Wertegemeinschaft, die sich an gemeinsamen Prinzipien und Idealen orientiert und ein vertrauensvolles Miteinander der verschiedenen Völker und Kulturen anstrebt. Geht man von der durch Machtpolitik und wechselnde Militärbündnisse dominierten europäischen Geschichte aus, so setz dieses anspruchsvolle Vorhaben einen beträchtlichen Lernprozess voraus, ehe aus Partnern guten Willens eine verschworene Friedensgemeinschaft werden kann.
Ich begrüße vor diesem Hintergrund das Projekt “14 + 1, Kunst aus den EU-Ländern” der Wiener Galerie feichtner & mizrahi, die ein Zeichen des Bemühens um Gemeinsamkeit und Vertrauen setzt, indem sie je einen Künstler oder eine Künstlerin aus jedem EU-Land für eine gemeinsame Ausstellung gewinnt. Darin sehe ich ein positives Signal für das so wichtige gemeinsame positive Handeln!

L'isolement de l'Autriche n'est pas une solution acceptable. Les artistes autrichiens au contraire doivent être confortés par notre présence et notre soutien; et c'est au coeur de la tournamente que doit être porté le combat.

Den Spießern um Haider oder Rüttgers CDU Deutschland mit seinem : Kinder statt Inder : täten wir einen gefallen mit solch einem Boykott. Entscheidend ist es, jeden Tag, durch Kunst unser geistiges und seelisches Immunsystem zu stärken. Dies ist nur möglich in einer europäischen und weltweiten Dimension. Bis hinein ins Universum. So umarme ich meine österreichischen Künstlerfreunde, wie u. a. Nitsch, Attersee, Anzinger, Pichler etc und hoffe auch sie stehen an meiner Seite! In diesem Sinne

Oscar Wilde once said that "People who don't judge by appearances are fools". Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to wait until idiots demonstrate the symbols of their intolerance in visual form, we have to listen carefully to their words and beware of their strategies.
We are all Europeans, working together against the traumas of the past. People who have no memory or corrupt the memory that exists as a reminder of how badly things can go wrong schould be challenged.
To fight Haider is an obligation not a choice.
